Getmapping pioneered the concept of nationwide coverage of aerial photography creating the most comprehensive and detailed aerial photographic survey of the UK. It was also the first company to take advantage of the Internet to deliver its new imagery through the online channel. Getmapping now has a vast range of products and services to suit every aerial imagery and mapping need, including planning maps, boundary maps (through aerial insight), data hosting and parish mapping (through Parish Online).

Today Getmapping produces its own vertical aerial photography, oblique photography and height data derived from its aerial survey program, which is also used in the pioneering People’s Map project, a new source of UK mapping free of derived data and Crown Copyright restrictions. Anyone can become a user of the People’s Map and contribute freely via the People’s Map website www.peoplesmap.com.

Getmapping is also an Ordnance Survey reseller and serves a wide variety of business sectors. In 2010 Getmapping has access to four aircraft through its membership of the AeroGRID consortium and is the only company currently re-flying the whole country at enhanced 12.5cm resolution.
