Soil and Vent Pipes
This can either be an external pipe or can be built into walls during construction. If installed internally, the pipe must exit the roof structure and rise above any windows.
The purpose of this pipe is both to let air into your draininge system (therefore reducing any gurgling plugs due to a pressure build up) and to release the bad smells from the system rather than them returning into the property through plug holes etc.
